WASHINGTON, DC (Sept 5, 2008) USSoccerPlayers -- The Colorado Rapids went from worst to third in the West on Thursday. Their 1-0 win over FC Dallas put them level with Chivas USA on points, and ahead on goal differential -2 to -4. How the weekend games change that remains to be seen, but the Rapids will be better off than Dallas.
Mike Petke's 60th minute goal was the difference, coming off confusion in the Dallas defense that left him clear to head in the game's only goal.
"I think it was a letdown on defending a corner kick," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said. "The player that scores a goal has nobody around him for five yards. You look at the video and how the goal was scored, a guy ran away from one of our players and he didn't follow him. Now he's standing there by himself and the game is over."
Colorado had to absorb a sustained Dallas attack that put seven of 15 shots on goal to the Rapids' 4 from 9 and dominated corners 10 to 4. Preston Burpo picked up the shutout for Colorado.
