Stade Louis II
If you're going to associate anything with Monaco's State Louis II before the arrival of Freddy Adu, it would probably be the UEFA Super Cup. The annual game between the Champions League and the UEFA Cup winners might not be considered the decider for true champion of Europe, but it does make American television. It also has had a permanent home in Monaco since 1998.
The stadium itself is near the ocean, built in 1985 and seating 18,500. It includes office space, a business school, and a parking deck directly below the field along with an athletic facility and a swimming venue. There is an international standard athletic track, pushing the seating areas away from the field.
Stade Louis II is built to look more like a building than a stadium, with the roof line segmented. That choice was made to make the stadium part of the neighborhood, rather than something architecturally distinct. Putting the parking deck beneath the stadium gives the venue a very small footprint.
It replaced the original Stade Louis II, finished in 1939 for AS Monaco in a different part of the Fontvieille area of Monaco.
