Biography:

Glenn Myernick was one of two U.S. coaches to play on and then later coach the U.S. national team and U.S. Olympic team. Myernick also coached in MLS where he guided the Colorado Rapids for four years, leading the club to the playoffs each season.

 

Prior to working for Colorado, Myernick worked with U.S. Soccer's coaching staffs and served as one of two U.S. Soccer National Coaching Coordinators. Myernick first began coaching internationally when he was an assistant with the U-20s at the 1993 World Youth Championship in Australia.

 

During his national team playing career, Myernick earned 10 caps and served as the squad's captain in 1978. He also played eight seasons in the NASL. During his college career, he won the 1976 Hermann Trophy.

On October 9, 2006, Myernick passed away at the age of 51 after failing to regain consciousness following a heart attack he suffered four days earlier. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, their son, Travis, and daughter, Kelly.

National Team Highlights:
2006 - Served as an assistant coach for  Bruce Arena at the 2006 World Cup.
2003-04 - Guided the U.S. men's Under-23  team in qualifying for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
2002 -  Served as an assistant coach at the 2002 World Cup.
1997 - From 1992 to 1997, he worked with U.S. Soccer's coaching staffs and was one of two U.S. Soccer National Coaching Coordinators.
1996 - Named as an assistant coach for the  U.S. Olympic Team in Atlanta.
1995 - Coached the U.S. U-17s at the FIFA  Under-17 World Championships in Ecuador.
1993 - Assisted with the U.S. U-20s  at the 1993 World Youth Championships in Australia.
1979 - Retired from the  U.S. national team on May 2 after being capped 10 times over four years.
1978  - Captained the U.S. national team.
1976 - Started four games for the U.S.  Olympic team in qualifying for the 1976 Games.
1975 - Debuted for the U.S.  national team.

 

Professional Highlights:
1999 - Guided Colorado to its best regular season finish, 20-12 ... Coached the West Conference to victory in the 1999 All-Star Game.
1997 - Inheriting a team that failed to make the playoffs in  1996, Myernick led Colorado to the MLS title game.
1984 - Ended his professional career in NASL after eight seasons during which he played for Dallas (1977-1979), Portland (1980-1982) and Tampa Bay (1983-1984).
1982 -  Voted Portland's team MVP by the fans after playing in 31 games and recording  five assists.

 

Youth and college: Played for then-NCAA power Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. in the 1970s. In his freshman season, Myernick was named a collegiate All-American and led Hartwick to the NCAA Final Four. He missed much of the following season playing with United States national team in qualifying matches for the 1976 Olympics. Myernick returned to Hartwick College and captained the squad in 1976 to the NCAA Final Four while winning the 1976 Hermann Trophy.
